noze presents at Fortezza da Basso from 28 to 31 October its work on the dematerialisation of the scientific communication process.
Dire e Fare is the event dedicated to those, inside and outside the public Administration, who are committed to promoting the sharing of experiences and the integration of resources at the service of the citizen.
Presented in a workshop in the e-Borgo area, noze’s system dematerialises by moving online the processes that make up an important part of scientific communication: abstracts and posters, one of the ways in which a scientist in any field presents to the world the progress and novelties of their own work.
Abstracts are concise summaries of the work, on which the scientific committee bases its assessment of the interest of the submitted work, while posters — on paper of about 1x1.2 m in size — are one of the two ways of communicating the results of scientific work (the other being oral communications).
Within an online system for managing associations and conference events, the abstracts system brings online all the various steps involving the work’s authors, the conference scientific committee, the scientific secretariat, the organising secretariat, and brings the posters online, making them electronic.
The process follows a precise calendar during the conference preparation period. The steps have been integrated into a single system which, by opening or closing the various parts of the system, makes the work of the involved actors progress, eliminating all paper steps and the need for meetings of the work evaluators.
At the end of the evaluation phase, the authors of the works are notified and can proceed to the creation of the poster, again from the same online system that allows those with an approved work to access the editing and publishing tools.
In summary, the steps of the Abstract and ePoster system presented by noze are:
- request for abstracts to the authors
- submission of abstracts by the authors, within a deadline
- evaluation with scores by a committee distributed across the territory (national and/or extra-national) to select the works that will be accepted and presented
- communication to the authors of the evaluation results, with the acceptance or rejection of the scientific communication
- preparation of the electronic poster
- preparation of the volumes of proceedings
Since 2004 noze has evolved this system thanks to its use during national congresses of scientific societies and now offers it also within the new system for Associations and Events.
