The project
noze develops the eyEM Data Manager software for Polab S.r.l., a company specialising in environmental electromagnetism based at the Polo Tecnologico di Navacchio (Pisa, Italy). The software manages the eyEM sensor, a portable personal radiofrequency electromagnetic field detector in the 100 MHz – 3 GHz band — the frequencies emitted by smartphones, tablets, WiFi networks, mobile phone antennas and wireless devices.
The sensor hardware is designed by Adatec. The sensor detects the presence and intensity of RF fields in real time via an integrated LED scale and stores measured levels with their timestamps in internal memory.
The software
eyEM Data Manager is a Chrome App (v1.6.0) that communicates with the sensor via USB serial port (FTDI protocol at 115200 baud) through the Chrome Serial APIs. The application manages the full data lifecycle:
- Download of data from the sensor with progress bar and automatic device reset
- Archiving of imports with metadata (date/time, time range, size)
- Selection and filtering by date range
- Interactive graphical visualisation with D3.js and C3.js: temporal chart of field levels in V/m and gauge absorption indicator
- Threshold analysis: setting a threshold (from 2.0 to 9.5 V/m) with exceedance count, peak and mean calculation over the selected interval
The interface is built on Bootstrap and jQuery, with Italian localisation. The application works offline — no network connection is required for sensor data management.
The context
Polab S.r.l. was founded in 2009 at the Polo Tecnologico di Navacchio, inheriting the experience of the Polab Electromagnetic Laboratory. eyEM is the company’s flagship product: a personal sensor designed to make RF electromagnetic field exposure measurement accessible to anyone — a topic relevant to environmental monitoring and workplace safety.
