On 19 March 2009 the second meeting of the seminar cycle organised by T-OSSLab takes place, in collaboration with the University of Pisa, the Polo Tecnologico di Navacchio, the Province of Pisa and Regione Toscana.

The aim of the initiative is to promote the spread and use of open source tools in the Public Administration through talks by lecturers and experts who explore their technical, management and strategic aspects. The seminars are also aimed at companies in the sector as an opportunity for discussion, exchange and enrichment.

The seminars include an afternoon lab session, allowing participants interested in using open source tools to examine and test the applications illustrated during the morning.

The seminar takes place on 19 March 2009 at the Department of Computer Science, Largo B. Pontecorvo 3, Building C, G.B. Gerace lecture hall, Pisa, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The lecturers are Paolo Bertamini and Francesco Bertozzi, Province of Lucca; Stefano Noferi and Elisa Balatresi, noze S.r.l.

The topics addressed will be Monitoring and Back-Up: these are extremely important activities for managing an IT infrastructure; they allow performance monitoring and issue detection, plus data preservation for recovery after failures or for historical archiving.

During the meeting the main aspects characterising monitoring and back-up activities will be introduced, and it will be highlighted how they can be effectively addressed using mature and reliable open source products.
