The project

The websites of the Radio 105 group — 105.net, radiomontecarlo.net and unitedmusic.it — are among the first high-traffic Italian portals built entirely on Open Source technologies and developed ad hoc. At a time when most editorial sites rely on proprietary platforms, this choice represents a significant technical and strategic decision.

The technology stack

The architecture is based on Zope and Python. Zope provides the application server with native object management, web publishing, a template system (DTML and later ZPT) and a granular security model. Python ensures flexibility in application logic and data management.

The development is completely custom: each portal is designed around the specific needs of the media group, with particular attention to schedule management, multimedia content and listener interaction.

Entertainment portals

These are portals in the entertainment sector with high traffic volumes, peaks linked to live radio programming and frequent content updates. The platform manages news, shows, podcasts, streaming, contests and community areas.

The ability to handle significant loads on an entirely Open Source stack demonstrates the maturity of these technologies for mission-critical applications in the media sector, paving the way for further adoption in the Italian market.
