The project
The GRID.IT project, funded under the FIRB programme (Fund for Basic Research Investment) of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, involves noze alongside ISTI-CNR Pisa (Institute of Information Science and Technologies) and INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics). The objective is the development of the Italian Grid Computing infrastructure.
noze’s contribution
noze handles several key components:
- Portal development on a Linux/Apache/Zope/Postfix stack, with an entirely Open Source architecture
- Certification Authority: management of the certification infrastructure for secure access to the computational grid
- Design and dissemination: design of the project’s visual identity and communication activities
The technology stack
The entire portal is built on open technologies: Linux as the operating system, Apache as the web server, Zope as the application server and Postfix for mail management. A choice consistent with the nature of Grid Computing, which originates and develops within the Open Source scientific community.
The context
GRID.IT represents one of Italy’s major projects for building a distributed computing infrastructure at the service of scientific research. noze’s participation confirms the company’s ability to operate on nationally significant research projects with high technological complexity.
